Employing an agile and user-led approach, Career Pathfinder is an innovative project aimed at assisting public servants in exploring diverse career options within the Australian public service. Small Multiples had the privilege of being the second of three studios collaborating with the APSC team on this remarkable initiative spanning over two years. Our involvement showcases our design-led methods, robust user research capabilities, and the collaborative efforts of our multidisciplinary team, enabling us to deliver exceptional design and implementation within a tight timeframe.

The Challenge

This project presented us with a fascinating challenge, as we sought to create a comprehensive solution that addressed the myriad of skills and interests influencing one’s career decisions. Understanding the complexity and variety of pathways from the current role to an aspirational one was crucial.

The Solution

We conducted extensive research, collaborating with experts and individuals from various backgrounds to create a comprehensive database of career options and skill requirements. Employing a user-centric design approach, we crafted an intuitive interface matching users’ mental models, allowing them to navigate the tool easily.

By incorporating data-driven insights and personalised recommendations, users can make informed career planning decisions, evaluating the prerequisites on their future roles.

Regular user testing and feedback-gathering through multiple design sprints refined the tool, empowering individuals to confidently shape their career futures with foresight and informed decision-making.
